Education Moves toward A More Connected, Data-Led Future

Education is no longer defined solely by classrooms, campuses and textbooks. Technology now sits across teaching, administration, student services and institutional planning. Education technology is becoming a core part of how schools and higher education institutions deliver learning, manage resources and respond to changing expectations.

The shift is occurring against a complicated backdrop. U.S. public schools enrolled 49.5 million students in 2023, below both 2019 and 2013 levels. Demographic change, funding pressure and competition for students are forcing institutions to examine how technology can improve outcomes without adding unnecessary complexity.

Technology Becomes Part Of The Educational Model

Artificial intelligence is speeding up these changes. In K-12 schools, 25 percent of teachers surveyed said they used AI tools for planning lessons or teaching during the 2023-24 school year. Almost 60 percent of principals said they used AI in their work, showing that AI is being used beyond just classroom teaching.

Students are also changing how they learn. In late 2024, about a quarter of U.S. teenagers surveyed said they had used ChatGPT for schoolwork, which is about twice as many as the year before. This trend is making educators rethink how they assess students, maintain academic honesty, and help students build independent skills.

Higher education faces a similar transition. AI is increasingly appearing across institutional functions, from teaching and learning to administration and student support. Recent research found that virtually every major area of surveyed institutions was already using AI products or expected to do so soon. Technology and data privacy teams are frequently involved in procurement decisions, while teaching and learning specialists have not always had an equivalent role.

The implication for buyers is significant. Education technology can no longer be evaluated only as a classroom tool. Institutions increasingly need to understand how a platform fits into identity management, data architecture, learning environments, accessibility requirements, cybersecurity and existing administrative systems.

The Buyer’s Question Is Changing

Technology spending is now increasingly linked to tangible institutional priorities. Retention, personalization, administrative efficiency, workforce readiness and improved access to information are becoming institutional technology priorities rather than standalone initiatives.

Data plays an important role in this process. The latest study conducted in higher education found out that operational efficiency was the top driver for data modernization initiatives, mentioned by 58 percent of participants. Student success and retention were next in line, accounting for 46 percent, whereas data visualization and decision-making scored 43 percent.

The problem is that many institutions continue to function in siloed technological environments. Legacy technology systems can create barriers to seamless information flow within various departments, whereas poor data management practices may complicate the process of creating institutional views. In addition, privacy, security, accessibility and human capacity are other factors that should be considered.

“The quality of implementation matters as much as the technology itself.”

Mature education technology strategies therefore start with institutional needs rather than individual products. Buyers should examine integration capabilities, data governance, accessibility, security controls, interoperability and the evidence supporting educational outcomes. Total cost should include implementation, training, maintenance and the resources required to manage change.

The quality of implementation matters as much as the technology itself. Recent research among U.S. higher education leaders found implementation was identified as the leading technology challenge by 44 percent of respondents. Infrastructure improvements and the pace of digital transformation followed.

From Adoption to Institutional Capability

The next stage of education technology will be less about accumulating tools and more about building institutional capability. Artificial intelligence, analytics, digital learning environments and connected administrative platforms will increasingly work together rather than exist as separate technology initiatives.

This calls for enhanced governance, wherein there must be defined rules regarding data ownership, privacy, the use of artificial intelligence, procurement and accountability. There must also be educators involved in the process of technology procurement, as the value of classroom learning cannot be determined from technology specifications alone.

The Department of Education has echoed this direction in its August 2026 guidance on responsible use of technology in education. This guidance recommends that states and local communities focus on the instructional value, evidence, educator decision-making, transparency and student success while evaluating technology. Access is another key factor. Technology that helps some students but makes things harder for others can do more harm than good. Schools need to check for accessibility when designing and buying new tools.

The best education technology plans also link learning to what employers expect. Students now need to know how to use new technologies before they start working, so digital skills are becoming a core part of education, not just an extra.

A More Deliberate Digital Future

Education is moving toward a model in which technology supports decisions throughout the student and institutional lifecycle. AI-assisted learning, predictive analytics, flexible learning environments and automated administrative services will expand, but their value will depend on how responsibly institutions deploy them.

The future of education technology will not be determined by how quickly institutions adopt every new tool. It will be determined by whether technology improves learning, expands access, strengthens institutional decision-making and earns the confidence of educators, students and families.

For schools and organizations buying technology, the focus is shifting from just getting new tools to taking care of technology in a thoughtful way. Education technology will have the biggest impact when it is part of a strong digital foundation that connects people, information, and learning, while keeping education’s main goals in mind.

Organizations across APAC are exploring more immersive digital environments as virtual reality applications expand beyond entertainment into education, healthcare, manufacturing, engineering, and workforce training. Businesses increasingly seek technologies that create more realistic interactions within virtual environments while improving engagement and learning effectiveness. How Are Haptic Technologies Enhancing Virtual Experiences? Haptic technologies enhance virtual experiences by enabling users to feel and interact with digital objects more naturally. Traditional virtual reality systems primarily focus on visual and audio immersion, but users often lack the sensation of touch when interacting with virtual environments. Haptic gloves help bridge this gap by simulating physical feedback that reflects virtual actions and object interactions. Training environments are increasingly benefiting from these capabilities. Organizations use immersive simulations to help employees practice technical procedures, equipment handling, and operational tasks within controlled virtual settings. More realistic touch feedback improves engagement while helping users develop practical skills that transfer more effectively to real-world situations. Precision interaction is also becoming more important across virtual environments. Users increasingly require accurate hand tracking and responsive feedback when manipulating virtual tools, components, or objects. Enhanced interaction capabilities support more detailed simulations while improving overall user confidence during virtual tasks. Educational applications continue expanding as well. Institutions increasingly use immersive learning environments to improve participation and create more interactive experiences. Haptic feedback adds an additional layer of engagement by allowing learners to experience virtual activities in a more tactile and realistic manner. Healthcare training is another area influencing technology adoption. Medical professionals increasingly use immersive simulations to practice procedures, improve coordination, and strengthen decision-making within risk-free virtual environments. Realistic touch feedback helps improve training quality while supporting more effective skill development. Why Is Industry Adoption Accelerating Across APAC? Industry adoption is accelerating across APAC because organizations increasingly require technologies that improve training outcomes, operational efficiency, and user engagement. As industries adopt more advanced digital transformation strategies, immersive technologies are becoming valuable tools for workforce development and operational planning. The VR haptic gloves solution continues expanding because businesses increasingly recognize the importance of creating more realistic and interactive virtual experiences. Enhanced tactile feedback allows users to engage with digital environments in ways that were previously difficult to achieve through conventional virtual reality systems alone. Technology integration is also improving system capabilities. Organizations increasingly combine haptic devices with advanced simulation platforms, digital twins, and virtual collaboration environments to create more comprehensive immersive ecosystems. Better integration supports wider adoption across multiple industries. Accessibility and scalability remain important priorities as well. Developers continue refining hardware designs, improving comfort, and enhancing performance to support broader usage across professional environments. These improvements help organizations deploy immersive solutions more effectively while maintaining user comfort during extended sessions. ...Read more
