To encourage sustainable living, Spacewasp is building a zero-waste process where no materials used to design interiors go to scrap. Key to this solution is the ‘Dual-cycle Automated Interior Manufacturing System,’ a method that integrates two key cycles. The process begins with the ‘Plant Cycle,’ where plant waste is transformed into usable materials. Later, it moves on to the ‘Interior Cycle,’ where these materials are crafted into functional and beautiful living space interiors.
At first, plant waste is sourced sustainably from diverse industries such as agriculture, food processing and forestry. The process begins with crushing, pulverizing and chemically modifying plant waste into high-performance plant-based resins, which later lays the foundation for manufacturing eco-friendly interior components—panels, trims and upholstery. These interiors can further be recycled or remade, closing the waste loop.
Unlike traditional materials like steel, wood or concrete, which contribute to resource depletion and limited scalability, Spacewasp’s plant-raw materials eliminate dependency on location-specific resources.
Using advanced 3D scanning tech, exact spatial dimensions are captured in the interior cycle, creating perfectly accurate but customizable interior designs. These designs are segmented into manufacturable and deliverable components, setting the stage for a streamlined production process. 3D printers and sheet fabricators are later used to bring designs to life with minimal environmental impact. Businesses seeking eco-friendly interiors can choose from a variety of designs, ranging from 3D-scanned renderings to AI-generated 3D concepts, all tailored to their needs.
